Keep it PG (Substitute Teacher Artist detail)
February 26, 2007
collaborative, acrylic and mixed media on canvas

There are three guidelines that I like students to follow when working on some collaborative drawings together;
1. Keep it PG ("@!*#" is ok),
2. No Hating (except for celebrities and politicians) and, most importantly,
3. Work with what's there. Just look at each piece of art and add whatever words or drawings come to mind.

Josephine Ho Talks About Post-College Plans
November 6, 2006
marker on paper, 8" x 6"

Josephine Ho of the Galileo High School College Center talks to seniors about their post-graduation plans. She focused on college and scholarship options but also mentioned the military as viable option - but I'd like to see a lot more information on campus about how to look more critically at the pitches that military recruiters give to students.

This is the drawing of the week for November 5-11, 2006.

Ms. Johnson has some real nice students in her English classes at Mission High School. On the day I was subbing, we read a few pages of Frederick Douglas together, then Christopher Moore, Romeo Parreno and the other students answered some written questions.

Learning About the Specs
September 25, 2006
marker on paper, 8" x 6"

I brought Mr. Lee's Yearbook class next door to Mr. Huynh's room for a combined lesson on what formatting standards students should be using for all Yearbook, Journalism, and school paper Word documents. Dry stuff, but necessary for creating publications - so the students whined a little and took notes.

This is the drawing of the week for September 24-30, 2006.

The Physics of Balancing an Overhead Projector
September 18, 2006
marker and pencil on paper, 5" x 7"

In Ms. Levine's physics classes, the only way to get the projector image to fit on the screen was to place it on several textbooks on a stool and hope that the potential energy would not be realized into kinetic energy.

Robert in Computer Class
April 17, 2006
marker on paper, 8" x 6"

I've been teaching a "computer art" class to freshmen at Galileo Academy of Science and Technology. it's nice to be teaching an art class, but I'd rather not have to compete with all the computer games (like the Orbox B game that Robert was playing).

This is the drawing of the week for April 16-22, 2006.
