Super Volunteer at Webster Elementary
September 12, 2003
marker on paper, 8" x 6"

After dropping off my brother and getting breakfast at the diner, I went to work at Daniel Webster Elementary School. While waiting in the office to be assigned, a woman came in to do some volunteering and schedule some more volunteer time, "Let's see, I've got Global Exchange on Monday and Food First! on Wednesday. I can come in again on Tuesday."

It wasn't so much that I was impressed by how much volunteering she did (she was clearly retired and did this full time), I just really liked her choice of organizations to volunteer with.

Simple Beauty (Mercede's Desk)
September 11, 2003
marker on paper, 8" x 6"

I gave this drawing to 6th-grader Brianna Carrier who titled it 'Simple Beauty'. "The smallest things make the biggest differences."

Mr. Gow, who was then the principal of the school, told me I should stop by on 9/11/03 to talk about being the on-site sub for Enola Maxwell. I was waiting in the office for a couple hours looking at Mercede's desk. Mr. Gow hadn't told anyone that he was going to a principals' meeting. He totally stood me up.
