The Never Crab
April 30, 2006
collaborative, marker, pencil and bloody mary on paper, 8.5" x 11"

This drawing is part of a collaborative drawing conversation - basically, a stack of art on paper that I bring all over the place with me. This picture was started by students at Galileo High School and finished at an informal gathering of a few Couch Sufers at the Wendies' place.

Zeitgeist at Zeitgeist (detail, in progress)
April 29, 2006
collaborative, acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 20" x 24"

Hanging at Zeitgeist on my birthday, I had friends and other fellow beer-gardeners draw pictures on paper of either "A force in the world," a "representation of their soul" or "whatever". I painted these drawings onto a canvas which will create an image of the meaning on life.

This is the "drawing of the week" for April 23-29, 2006.

The Apartments
March 15, 2006
collaborative, acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 30" x 36"

This painting was created to accompany the play, "The Apartment," written and directed by Mia Rovegno and produced by Fool's Fury theater company. The canvas sat unfinished in the lobby at the theater, CounterPULSE, and audience members were invited to draw a picture of the view someone might have looking into their apartment. These drawings were then collaged onto the canvas to complete the urban landscape.

Participating artists included Sarah Starpoli, BoB King, Abbie (who included Jen and the dogs - Cody, Rusty, and Zeke), Elizabeth Traina, Karina Beregogno, J.C. Langer, Michelle Sousa, Russell, Judy Cohen, Lauren Girardin, TTT, Emily Butterfly, Gabrielle Thormann, and Candice B. Jacobs. Some of the drawings were included in The Mission Apartments, the second painting in this series.

Collaborative Reflection on El Norte
March 6, 2006
collaborative, mixed media on paper, 3' x 5'

As a substitue teacher for Ms. Foley's Spanish classes, I worked with students to create this painting about the movie, El Norte - a stirring and honest film about a brother and sister's difficult journey from Guatemala to America.

Students drew small pictures related to the film, which I collaged together with acrylic paint. Details of this painting can be found in the "Reflections on El Norte' topic gallery.

Tuesday Barbecue at Naps 3
February 21, 2006
collaboration, marker and pencil on paper, 9" x 12"

This is a collaboration with a bunch of the Tipsy Tuesday crowd including Dan, Bonnie, Mattthew, Richard, Brett, Matt, Kevin and some others. Some folks made suggestions, others put pen to paper.

We were at Nap's Only, an underappreciated bar in the Bernal / TransMission neighborhood (described well by Katy St. Clair in her Bouncer column). There was a drag king contest next door at El Rio sending all kinds of hoots and hollers over the fence at us. We were defended only by the meat bubbles being sent back at them from our Nap's open grill. This is the drawing of the week for February 19-25, 2006.

February 18, 2006
collaboration, marker and pencil on paper

Meklit Hadero sings at the MAPP event at L's Caffe that she curated. This drawing was created with the help of several other audience members who reflected on the almost spiritual peace of Meklit's songs.
