The Trophies of Toronado
December 19, 2007
marker on paper, 5" x 7" (sold)

Toronado Pub is known for their large, high-quality selection of draught beer. A friend asked the bartender which beer was a good one - the bartender responded, "psh... all of them."

The walls of the bar are covered with draft handles displayed on wooden racks, like hunting trophies. It's an impressive display to look at while eating a smoked lamb sausage from Rosamunde Sausage Grill next door washed down with a dark Santa's Tipple.

This is the drawing of the week for December 16-22, 2007.

Collectively Inspired View of the 7th Annual Monster Drawing Rally
February 23, 2007
marker and pencil on paper, 8" x 10" (donated)

I was a drawer at Southern Exposure's 7th Annual Monster Drawing Rally. This is a view from the drawing table created using ideas suggested by the jam-packed crowd of on-lookers.

I put out a piece of paper asking for words to describe the event replies included: "Beer Breath," "Stuffed," "Energized," "Sex (so it will sell)," and "Great People Watching" - and things that need to be included in a drawing of the monster rally. Some ideas people wrote were: "Unicorns," "Monsters!," "Monster sitting on a toad stool," "Lobster," "Space," and "An Elephant Drawing," all of which I kept adding to the drawing until I realized that it was 9 O'clock and my turn was up. John Casey's drawing hand also appears in this drawing (he's not the elephant).

This is the drawing of the week for February 18-24, 2007.

The Narwhals Swim at Wild Side West on a Tuesday
December 7, 2006
collaborative, acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 12" x 12"

It was a Tuesday night at the Wild Side West, and the conversations explored strange territories. We passed around paper and markers and Tipsy Tuesdayers collaborated on some writing and drawing which became the backbone and inspiration for this painting.

We talked about Narwhals, unicorn of the sea - I don't think that anyone new that the Narwhal horn is actually the males' 8 foot long tooth.

We all love TTT not knowing how much love there is for TTT.

Reflection on El Norte (detail - bottom center, rats)
March 6, 2006
collaboration, acrylic and mixed media on paper

To get into the U.S., Enrique and Rosa, the main characters of the movie 'El Norte', crawled through several miles of sewage tunnels and were attacked by a swarm of rats.

Many of Ms. Foley's students drew small rats to add to the swarm in this collaborative painting. See more of this painting in the 'Reflections on El Norte' topic gallery.

The Luxury Issue
January 14, 2006
acrylic and collage on canvas, 20" x 24"

This painting is inspired by and includes collaged elements from 7x7 Magazine. They keep sending us issues, though we have certainly never sent them any money. The ballet poem at the top right of the canvas was contributed by Shelley Long.

The people at the top left were all at a fancy benefit for a dog rescue organization. The sides of the canvas are decorated with other bits of the society mag.
