A Cold Night in January
January 17, 2007
collaborative, marker and pencil on paper, 8" x 6"

On "A Cold Night in January" As Ronnie Cato crooned with Living Space on the stage at El Rio, we passed around the sketchbook (a sort of "Real Time Remix") to capture the scene.

Special thanks to Wendy and everyone else for adding their inspiration to the sketchbook as it continued to move around the room for the whole Elegant Clydes and Blammos sets.

We managed to document the whole "Cold Jan. Night at El Rio."

photograph of a creative experience

Students at Galileo High School add to each others drawings in a collaborative conversation. I have asked them to follow their instincts as the write and draw to add to small pieces of art in collaboration with a wide range of my friends, strangers, and other students. It's nice to be able to bring some absurd art into the classroom when I am working as a substitute teacher.

The Ultimate Teacher
November 7, 2005
collaboration, marker and pencil on paper, 8.5" x 11"

Created with students in Ms. Barret's classes at Galileo High School. This is part of a "Re-Imagining Education" project to use art to explore problems and possibilities in our approaches to education.

While I was the substitute, students passed paper around and reflected on various themes including the theme of education.

Here, they collectively imagined the "Ultimate Teacher" - "knowz how to have a good 'friend' relationship w/ students," "No Homework!!," "Muscular," "Open Minded," "I make learning FUN!," "All of you kids get Free time," and more.

I finished this piece by putting this teacher in his natural habitat.
