A Cold Night in January
January 17, 2007
collaborative, marker and pencil on paper, 8" x 6"

On "A Cold Night in January" As Ronnie Cato crooned with Living Space on the stage at El Rio, we passed around the sketchbook (a sort of "Real Time Remix") to capture the scene.

Special thanks to Wendy and everyone else for adding their inspiration to the sketchbook as it continued to move around the room for the whole Elegant Clydes and Blammos sets.

We managed to document the whole "Cold Jan. Night at El Rio."

Beer and Music Equals Happy Friends
January 17, 2007
collaborative, marker and pencil on paper, 8" x 6"

We passed the notebook around and a whole bunch of different people added their impressions at the Elegant Clydes show in the back room of El Rio.

As the set list shows, the show began with Betsy singing "Down to the River to Pray." After that, the beer and music led to happy friends.

Betty White
January 17, 2007
marker and pencil on paper, 8.5" x 5.5"

Betty White? No, actually, that would be Betsy White singing for Elegant Clydes along with guitarist Chavy Blake and drummer David Machlan. This is one of a series of collaborative drawings from this Cold Night in January at El Rio.

Some other impressions people wrote down during the show? "Drunk guy in shorts played harmonica... BADLY." Perhaps this prompted others to set some rules: "No shorts, No Cellphone, No public slow dance, No Hand-on-butt, No flip flops! No! No! No!!! NO!" Oh, the angst.

This is the drawing of the week for January 15-22, 2007. During this week, I also made drawings at 826 Valencia and San Francisco's Hall of Justice.

We Love New Blammos
January 17, 2007
collaborative, marker and pencil on paper, 8.5" x 5.5"

This drawing is one of four made from the cumulative impressions and musings of the crowd on a Cold January Night at El Rio. This one is of Blammos - now with "100% less Michael Jackson." The crowd dug the "umpah, umpah, umpah,..." of Blammos' multi-genre rock stylings. The Vermonters said "Syrupy sweet," the Californians said, "Hella cool," and the New Jersians exclaimed, "Blammos Rocks!"

For the full experience, listen to the music from that night at the Blammos Blog.
