Re-Entry From Playa on Bart
September 6, 2007
marker and pencil on paper, 4" x 6"

Having returned from the Playa for only a few days, I was still feeling the culture shock while riding Bart to downtown. At Burning Man, everyone is a friend with whom you can strike up a conversation and from whom you are likely to receive some sort of gift.

This is the drawing of the week for September 2-8, 2007.

Top Hat, Last Photo
September 3, 2007
cardboard, duct tape and other materials

I wore this top hat for most of the week during Burning Man. The solar panel on top charged during the day to light it up at night.

The thinking gears inside slowly deteriorated during the week. The flashing LED's died and stayed inside. I also added a Koala I found on the playa at dawn.

Portrait of Peachy, Camp Mom
September 2, 2007
marker on paper, 4" x 6" (gift)

Dawn's light was breaking and I walked up to a bar on an art car. Peachy was there cleaning up the bar and telling her camp mate which liquor to fetch. She was being the camp mom - keeping things in order and chanting that mantra - "Clean As You Go!"

Thank you for the rum, Peachy, and thank you for making it all work.

Yum Cart Catches a Rainbow
August 31, 2007
photograph

For three years (2002, 2003 and 2005)I attended Burning Man as part of Yum Camp. We operated the Taste Wagon - purveyors of Every Flavor in the Known Universe. It is a magical experience to serve up a taste on demand in the middle of the desert. We knew we would not be returning to Black Rock City in 2006, and were dispirited at the thought that the much-loved Taste Wagon would not return.

But the playa would provide.

We met Sam who agreed to carry on the tradition. Through great trials and despite the best efforts of U-Haul, Sam brought the Taste Wagon to the desert in 2006, and built the Yum Cart to deliver flavor in 2007. On a Friday afternoon during a vicious dust storm, I stood back to back with Sam and served tastes.

Then there was a rainbow.

This is the art of the week for August 26 - September 1, 2007.

Showing Prophe-See TV
August 30, 2007
Photograph of an art presentation

"Would you like to see a TV show?"

I traveled around Black Rock City with 10 feet of canvas on a scroll and showed "Prophe-See TV - The Future of Our Own Creation" shows to all sorts of people at Burning Man.

I had collected drawings from students in my computer art class at Galileo High School of "something from the future" and collaged the drawings together into these paintings of the future. I collected more drawings of the future from Burners which will help me complete the vision.

This picture by Regina shows me giving the show at the "Snowball in Hell" Camp - home of the "Ring of Fire."
